Woooohoo a radio show today with the magnificent little lady Maha Rahwanji, where I (waad) was her guest for a whole hour. We played 10 of my favorite songs and chatted about being in the UK, Palestine, and other things.

A tea party

The 5th of Jan we had some people over tea and simple Palestinian food. It was a small party where people were invited to hear about Sawahreh which is a small town in East Jerusalem and Palestine in general and about our idea about a possible twinning link between Brent & Sawahreh. I was really happy about our performance and I really would like to say thank you to all the people who came especially Maha & Andrew who were there with me from the beginning and for doing and still doing their best for this to start.

people enjoyed their time, chatted with each other, and learned new things about Palestine. After we finished we got an immediate feedback by e mail from some of those people saying how much this was useful for them and that they will do their best to help and contribute to this friendship association.

I was having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures, and then when the party came to an end and people started leaving, I was like hmm pictures ;)

A walk in the town

It was a Sunday afternoon when me (waad), Andrew, and Ann (local Brent people) decided to go to the Farmer`s Market, which is a local market that is held every Sunday at Salusbury School Playground. There you will see fresh fruit & vegetables, meat & fish, bread, lots of organic things and the list go on. Its a place where friends & neighbors can meet and say hello while they are buying healthy food, as we say in Arabic hit two birds with one stone, meeting someone you miss and eating something that will not kill you.

Waad (here with a blue hejab) came to England and Wales on a CADFA visit this summer - see this blog for more information: 2013commonground.blogspot.co.uk

When she went back to Palestine, she went to do some feedback at her old school, Sawahreh Girls' School, and told us that the people listening to her asked why Sawahreh School didn't have the same twinning activities as the Abu Dis schools.  That is how the idea of making a link between Sawahreh and Brent started.

Now Waad is in London for 3 months as an EVS volunteer working with CADFA.  In early 2014, she will be in Brent for two weeks available to visit organisations and help with the twinning. If you can help her, please get in touch!
